Born in Franklin, Virginia, on May 16, 1956, Ricky Blunt, Sr. embodied the values of hard work and perseverance from an early age. A graduate of Virginia State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Ricky achieved academic goals and was also a leader, becoming a member of the Esquire Club and the Alpha Phi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
Ricky’s journey was marked by both professional success and personal triumphs. He was a visionary entrepreneur, acquiring Franklin Bus Service from his father in 1991 and expanding it into a thriving enterprise with up to 10 charter buses servicing the East Coast and beyond. His contributions to the transportation industry earned him recognition as the Franklin-Southampton Chamber of Commerce Businessman of the Year in 1996.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ricky was deeply committed to his community. He served as a beacon of hope and inspiration, overcoming significant health challenges with grace and resilience. Ricky’s unwavering faith, nurtured by his lifelong membership at First Baptist Church, Franklin, sustained him through his health battles, including a kidney transplant and a courageous fight against prostate cancer.
In addition to his professional and community leadership, Ricky cherished his role as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He shared a loving partnership with his wife, Dorothy, for 40 years, embodying the vows they made “for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health.” His love for his family extended to his children and grandchildren, whom he cherished dearly.
Ricky’s passion for life extended to his hobbies, including his love for horses and trail riding. He was a respected member of the East Coast Trail Riding Association and found joy in spending time with his family, whether on trail rides, jet skiing, or tending to his backyard oasis, complete with a koi pond.
Today, Blunt Legacy Farm, LLC honors Ricky Blunt, Sr.’s memory and continues his legacy of resilience, integrity, and love. As stewards of his vision, we are committed to upholding the values he held dear and to creating a lasting impact for generations to come.
Ricky leaves behind a cherished legacy, embodied by his beloved wife, Dorothy, his children Ricky Deon Blunt, Jr. (Megan) and Rickeita Blunt Jones (Chris), and his adored grandchildren. Though he may have transitioned from this world, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his legacy continues to inspire us every day.
